Testimonial of a 13 years old girl
I am 13 years old.
Until a few months ago, I lived with my mother, my stepdad, my two-year-old sister and my five stepbrothers.
I had a lot of problems with my mother because she had psychological problems and she is addicted to alcohol.
She called me terrible things and he beat me with different objects, she even poured cold water over me.
My mother lies a lot, about everything. She even hit my grandmother once in a while. I didnāt have a good relationship with my mother.
But the bigger problem was her partner, my stepdad!
First, my stepdad made it all look fun, he just tickled me. But then he touched me and I really didnt like that. First, he touched my belly, then my breasts and later on he grabbed my butt and touched my vagina.
He made it all look like a fun tickle game, and I was too young to realize that this was not normal.
In March 2023, I was in the bathroom when my stepdad entered without permission and pushed me against the wall, trying to kiss me. I pushed him away, but he was stronger and pushed me even harder against the wall. Luckily, I was able to escape that day.
After two weeks, my stepdad entered in my bedroom, and he tried to do the same. And after that it became more frequently, every weekend, when my stepdad was at home, he touched me.
Every time my mother left; I was very scared of him. I hoped that my mother would protect me, but she didnāt help me.
When I was brave enough to tell her, she told me that I was not allowed to tell anybody, not my grandmother, nobody.
One day, my older stepbrother, who is 22 years old, saw my stepdad touching me and he confronted him. A few weeks later, my brother died. I donāt know what happened, but I started to feel guilty for his death. I was scared that my stepdad may have killed him.
The last time my stepdad touched me was in August 2023. I was alone with my stepdad, because my mother went on vacation for two weeks.
One day, my stepdad became jealous of a waiter, who just offered me water at a restaurant. My stepdad started to yell at me, asking why I was flirting with the waiter. He threatened me that he will hurt me when we come back home.
This night I could escape and I was so scared that I decided to tell my grandmother the next day.
When I told my grandma, she was so sad and started to cry. She told me that we will start all over again. My grandmother told me that I need a psychologist, so we went to Casa Minka in August 2023.
In the beginning it was very difficult for me to talk and I felt so guilty for what happened to me and my brother and I was also worried about my little baby sister. But after three months of therapy at Casa Minka, I feel much better now and I know that I am strong!
I am living with my grandmother and my aunt now. I want to finish school and focus on my studies. Later on, I want to go to university and become a pediatrician.
Testimonial of a 16 years old girl
I am 16 years old.
I used to live with my mother, my stepfather and my siblings. I hated my stepfather.
It all began when I was 5 years old.
He abused me and my sister, who is three years older.
He often threatened me that he will kill my mother and my siblings if I tell anybody.
He beat me and I was always scared that he will send someone to kill us.
One day, I confided in my cousin about the abuse, and as a result, my sister and I were taken to the police.
Unfortunately, my mother didnāt help us. As a consequence, I am now living with my aunts since living with my mother became impossible.
I started therapy at Casa Minka in June 2023, and Iāve been consistently attending since.
Initially, I felt apprehensive about my therapist. Despite her reassuring me that I could choose where to sit, I always opted for a spot as far away as possible.
However, therapy has been good to me and now Iām focused on looking toward the future. I want to become a police officer.
